Leading the Way With One Health Veterinary Medicine in Chicagoland
We are social architects promoting the importance of the pet-human bond in integrative pet care.
Dr. Bhatt and the team at Arya Animal Acupuncture are dedicated to fostering the practice of One Health to protect and safeguard the health synergy of animals, people and the environment.
What is One Health?
One Health is an approach that recognizes that the health of people is closely connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. (CDC, 2022). The One Health Initiative is quickly gaining attention by the entire medical community to create a seamless interaction between veterinary and human medicine for the benefit of domestic, farm, and wild animals, human beings, and the environment. Issues such as an expanded population, urban extension, and climate change have shifted the environment leading to the emergence of new disease, and the need for management and prevention.
Arya Animal Acupuncture and One Health
Arya Animal Acupuncture unites human and veterinary medicine in the care of pets and their carers.
Although we only treat companion animals, we consider the health of our pet parents as a whole 360 approach in our care. We see zoonotic disease all of the time with our pets getting a disease like rabies — which can affect humans. As an integrative veterinary clinic, we practice Chinese acupuncture - why this is interesting is because ancient Chinese texts show that the principals of yin and yang were applied through acupuncture to all human and animal patients. In addition, we love helping foster the human-pet bond with all of our pet families, and know the impact pet healthcare takes on pet parents. Dr. Bhatt strongly believes in working with pet parents to empower them, calm them, and help them be a part of their pet’s healing process.
Dr. Bhatt and the Team also intend to work with medical professionals in our field and in human medicine to combine efforts in the practice of more integrative approaches.
The medical world has already incorporated several positive steps by involving animals in human care through, for example, having therapy dogs visit with sick patients - something which has proven to be a superb impact on the mental well being and health of their patients. In the veterinary world, the dependence a pet has on their humans helps with their mental well being and wellness. It’s all synergistic. A beautiful yin and yang of the animal-human bond.
The Human - Animal Bond
The human-animal bond involves the unique interrelationships between animals and people. It is a key factor of exploration in studies and research of One Health that explore the influence of these relationships in the influence of health and well-being in both, humans and animals.
As pet parents, we ask you to join us in helping further the message of One Health. Ask us to tell you more about it the next time we meet.
