How To Brush Your Dog's Teeth

3/29/23

Brushing a dog's teeth is one of the most important preventative measures you can take to help them stay healthy. Just like it does for us humans, good oral hygiene helps the whole body.

If your dog has never had its teeth brushed, introduce the whole concept slowly. Let them get used to the toothbrush, let them taste the dog-friendly enzymatic toothpaste. Once you start them getting used to it, bring in the treats as positive reinforcement. It takes a few tries, but it will work. We want this to be a positive experience for both, you and your dog.

How to brush your dog's teeth:

1. Use any dog-friendly enzymatic toothpaste that your dog likes.
2. Make sure that you and your dog are comfortable.
3. Let the dog check out the toothpaste before you start brushing.
4. Gently lift the dog's lips, introduce the toothbrush, and start brushing.
5. End with praise, love, and positive reinforcement - yes... get 'em treats!

In this video, we have Baloo and Vex as our teeth models for your viewing pleasure. These cuties are used to having their teeth brushed almost daily, and are used to the routine.

PSA: Please, never ever use human toothpaste for dogs). Get a vet-approved toothpaste, or one approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC).
